One question a lot of people ask is, does Walmart offer a military discount? Best Discount Programs decided to tackle this question head on and let you know what we discovered.
Does Walmart Offer a Military Discount?
No. While Walmart does not offer a military discount, they do help veterans and those transitioning back to civilian life. Walmart provides job opportunities, job training, support, and education to honorably discharged veterans or military personnel who were active for at least 12 months. This benefit is a part of the Walmart Veterans Welcome Home Commitment.
What is the Veterans Welcome Home Commitment?
This program was started by Walmart back in 2013. The plan was to hire 100,000 veterans by the end of 2018. However, in 2015 they decided to up the goal to 250,000 veterans by the end of 2020. Here are just a few examples of how Walmart is making a difference in the military community.
Coalition for Veteran-Owned Business: By being a founding member, Walmart supports veteran-owned business throughout the U.S. as they provide support for veterans and their families in their business.
Greenlight A Vet: This campaign is designed to visibly show appreciation for veterans. Change one light bulb in your home to a green one as a symbol of support for those who served.
Walmart Military Family Promise: If you’re a part of a military family, you know how difficult moving can be. With this promise, Walmart guarantees your job if you have to move due to a military transfer. Once employed, military members are also eligible for Walmart’s Employee Discount.
Military Leave Of Absence (MLOA): If you have to leave your job due to a military assignment, you may fear that the job might not exist when you get back. Walmart offers differential pay to those taking a leave of absence. To be qualified, the assignment has to last more than 3 days and through the duration of leave. This program includes basic training and enlistment procedures.
In short, if you or someone you know is looking for a job after serving our country, visit your local Walmart or see what jobs are available online. While Walmart may not offer a military discount, they can offer a steady paycheck, a comfortable work environment, and some helpful benefits.
